Nestled between Witham and Braintree are the beautiful Grade I listed Cressing Temple Barns which make for a gorgeous wedding venue backdrop. Complementing the Templar-built barn is an idyllic and peaceful Tudor walled garden, which provides a perfect backdrop for photographs with its arbour, viewing platform and trickling water feature. The 13th-century timber framed barns, which were built in the Knights Templar period, are steeped in history and rustic charm with ancient timbers and brickwork providing a wow-factor backdrop to celebrations on your special day.

Ceremonies can be held in two of the barns for up to 200 guests. The Wheat Barn has a viewing platform for amazing aerial photos, while the Barley Barn provides a blank-canvas space with its hard floor, wooden timbers and brickwork giving a rustic vibe. Outdoor weddings (100 guests) are hosted in the Gardener's Shelter and adjoining orchard from April to mid-July. In the evening, parties move to the Evening Barn and courtyard – a great party spot for a DJ or live entertainment.

We love... Couples who book the barns for their wedding day are offered a complimentary date night at one of the venue's outdoor film screenings for their first anniversary.
