Fancy sitting down to some tasty and filling food; be it for a romantic pre-wedding date or for gathering your nearest and dearest for your hen or stag? An Essex Wedding paid a visit to TGI Fridays in Braintree to sample some of their 12 brand new dishes now available across the UK… Claire Muffett-Reece gives us the lowdown!
"My husband, two boys and I arrived to a warm welcome by the friendly staff at Braintree; no surprise as they probably recognise us from the amount of times we visit! Our eldest, the teenager, is obsessed with their Sesame Chicken Strips, to the point he's asked to go there for the past three birthdays. After sitting down and ordering a wine for me, a beer for the husband and two Oreo Cookies & Cream milkshakes for the boys (which I had to sample; it would be rude not to), we opened up our menus. The teenager instantly asked for the Strips, but I managed to persuade him to try something new on the condition we could share the new Wall to Wall Chicken Platter to start. On it were – you guessed it – those legendary Sesame Chicken Strips, along with Crispy Chicken Fingers, Boneless Wings and BBQ wings, served with TGI's Legendary Glaze made with Jack Daniel's, honey mustard dressing and blue cheese sauce for dipping. Wipes were thankfully provided – because you really do get sticky!
"For a main I went all out, picking The Ultimate American Grill. Consisting of a flame grilled 4oz rump steak, garlic and lemon grilled chicken breast, Cajun bacon chop, half rack of ribs and a Fridays Chicken Wing, it was coated in their delicious glaze and served with house fries, grilled mushroom, onion rings and corn on the cob. Needless to say, my eyes were bigger than my belly, and I'm not ashamed to admit I smuggled half a chop and some steak back home to our cats! The kids feasted on bacon cheeseburgers, and my husband opted for a tasty New York strip steak, as the new Deluxe Wagyu Burger he originally wanted was so popular they were completely out of stock! Pudding-wise, we were defeated – which is a huge surprise to a mum of two growing boys who NEVER stop eating. Next time we'll most definitely be opting for the Fridays Fave Dessert Platter, recommended to be shared between three. A selection of Chocolate Fudge Fixation, Honeycomb Cheesecake, Apple Crumble Pie and Brownie Obsession, it's drizzled in chocolate, strawberry and caramel sauce and is served with candyfloss, orange sorbet, vanilla ice cream, strawberries, and hundreds and thousands. I'll be sure to wear an elasticated waistband in preparation..."
