What do you love about patch...
patch is a real community hub. It's a safe space. Lots of people have made it theirs and that's really gorgeous - whether that be parent and baby groups, The Hook networking group, families meeting for lunch or people enjoying a date..
We work with lots of local creatives to bring really awesome and lovely events to patch, especially our poetry at patch with Billie Vasquez-Walters and Ricci Read. It's a pay what you can afford evening where all the money goes to the poets.
Congratulations on your recent award. Tell us a bit about yourself...
Outside of patch I'm a musician and am heavily involved in Colchester Pride. Creating the day itself but also making sure our pride is not just the one event a year. Over the last year we've brought 75 events to the community and we are a tiny team of volunteers. I am all about championing local musicians and paying for that skill.
My patch business partner Jordan Sidwell is an amazing person. He has true passion for creating in the kitchen and making outstanding vegetarian food that everyone enjoys - meat lovers included. With his passion for using what there is and my love for exceptional customer service - together with our awesome patch staff, we make a pretty good team!
What more should we know about patch?
patch is a new vegetarian plant-led restaurant in the heart of Colchester, opened in September 2022, with an emphasis where possible on locally-grown, seasonal produce from small independent producers and from our very own patch! Located in HAT Projects on Trinity Street, we would like to welcome you to a friendly, laid-back environment where food and ingredients speak for themselves.
Previously, as one half of grain, Jordan brought small plate dining to our local patch, and we want to continue to nurture our patch and deliver high quality seasonal food, now in a relaxed, café environment. We have a vegetable patch at Garr House Farm, a working farm in Great Wigborough. We grow produce which will feature in our seasonal lunch plates and hope to create a resourceful kitchen garden, ensuring that every step of the way we are environmentally conscious with minimal waste. patch also speaks to our ethos; with high quality food at the heart of what we do, we are a restaurant with a make do and mend attitude. We will work with local suppliers, minimise single-use waste, and make the most of the resources we have around us.
